Urban Decay Perversion Mascara and Subversion Lash Primer || Review

13.8.14

The last time I was excited for a mascara release was when Benefit released They're Real- unfortunately I was hugely disappointed. For me, it did nothing it was supposed to and it was a royal pain in the backside to remove, so when I heard Urban Decay were releasing a new mascara that was supposedly incredible I was sceptical to say the least.

But after reading several rave reviews online, I decided to take the plunge and see whether Perversion worked any better for me. At £17, it's a tad more expensive than my beloved The Falsies, but so far I think it might be worth it.

For a limited time, Perversion comes with a free sample of Subversion  lash primer. I've been using the two together for the past few days and I have to say, I'm impressed! There's something special in this blacker than black formula that makes it immune to clumping no matter how many coats you apply. And something else that makes it different to any other mascara I've tried is that you can easily reapply later in the day- not that you need to- so if you're the kind of person who likes a subtle lash during the day but wants to pump up the volume for the evening then you can easily add a couple of extra coats of this bad boy. I usually find that mascaras go a bit crispy and so make it nigh on impossible to add extra coats later in the day.

Overall I am in love with this combination, the formula is creamy, it volumises and lengthens lashes and it's easy to remove. I'm not sure whether it's waterproof, but I'll be wearing it to see Les Miserables this Friday so I will edit this post once I find out ;)

Bourjois Bronzing Primer || Review

6.8.14

Bourjois Bronzing Primer- £9.99

For some reason cream face product scare me, when it comes to bronzer, highlighter and blush I am a powder girl through and through- I think it's because I once tried a cream highlight that didn't blend well at all. Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel seems to have come back into the spotlight (I say back, wasn't it big a few years ago? Or did I dream that?) and I've been toying with the idea of giving it a go, but at £32 it's not exactly cheap and did I really want to pay that much for something I might never use?

I clocked this Bourjois Bronzing Primer when strolling through Superdrug; at first glance it looked pretty similar to Soleil Tan de Chanel and at a third of the cost I was more than willing to give it a go!

I kinda wish I'd got a picture before I'd used it, woops!
I've been applying this over my foundation using a Real Techniques contouring brush and pop it in the hollows of my cheeks, swirl it up to my temples and bring it onto my forehead- basically where I'd apply bronzer usually- and this gives such a lovely sunkissed glow. As it's a cream, it blends really well and gives such a natural finish. It looks a little orange toned in the pot so I'm fairly sure that if you try to build it up too much it'll be orange toned on the skin, but when used sparingly it's subtle but lovely. It's not the best for contouring, but for an all over glow it gets the job done.

I'm not fully converted to cream products, but this has definitely made me want to try a few more. Probably starting with Chanel...

What are your must have cream blushes/bronzers/highlighters?

MAC Maleficent Beauty Powder || REVIEW

26.5.14

Hi everyone! Sorry, it's another review. More specifically it's another MAC review. I can't help myself man, shopping there has become like a drug to me and I am incredibly unwilling to quit this habit at present. Anyway, if you didn't know the Maleficent film will be coming out in the next week or so and MAC have created a new collection to get her look.

Now, when I think 'Maleficent', I think of the 1959 drawing and can't honestly say I envied her beauty much at all. In the new film, however, the jaw-dropping Angelina Jolie has taken on the role and I will buy any product that gives me even the slightest chance of looking like her.

The powder itself is a soft pink/peach colour and MAC's website advises that it be used as a "highlight, soft blush or overall finish" I haven't used it as an overall finish, and there is a huge amount of colour for me to think it's a suitable blush but boy oh boy does it work as a highlighter. I've never used a powder highlighter before, liquid/cream always worked fine so there was no need for me to venture elsewhere- but there was an ever present problem with my previous highlighters, they were a bit too noticeable. No amount of blending could make them as subtle as I wanted. This beauty powder has kinda changed my life.

There's no noticeable sheen to the powder, but it manages to highlight perfectly. It makes it look like my hamstery little face might have some cheekbones hidden in there- incredible! My main problem with it is that it's limited edition and I can see this becoming a staple in my make up bag, most of the Maleficent range has already sold out online so you'll have to head to a store if you want a chance of nabbing any of it. I kinda wish I'd got the sculpting powder too, but alas I was too slow!

Seriously though, this product is great, a little goes a long way so I'm fairly sure it'll last me a while. Hopefully they bring out something similar in the future to replace it because it kinda looks like you've brushed Photoshop onto your face. The only actual downfall is I can't see it being suitable for all skin tones, it works for me because it just happens to be slightly lighter than my natural skin tone but if you're darker or more olive toned I'm not sure how it'd work. Give it a go though and prove me wrong!

Have you tried anything from the Maleficent range? Or is there something you've got your beady little eye on? Let me know!

P.S. Sorry for the terrible pictures, it's awfully bright in my room lately. Also, there are no pictures of it on my face because a) my camera does not do it justice and b) I look like a goblin today.

Burgers with Ben at Byron || Review.

13.4.14

I'm sorry, it seems I took an unintentional hiatus from blogging; studying, work and starting my YouTube channel kinda took over my life. On top of all that, I had a bit of a mental block when it came to thinking of post ideas. But that's all besides the point because now I am back with a vengeance...or something like that.

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I decided to take a trip to Cambridge so he could go to the barbers and we could have a poke around the shops. He also wanted to show me one of his favourite burger joints. Now I am not a huge burger fan, I will usually opt for something else if I can just because I find them messy and, usually, they all taste the same to me. Then I was introduced to Byron and now I think I might be a burger convert.

The restaurant itself is all aesthetically pleasing etc. but that's not what you guys care about, the food is AMAZING. For drinks I chose cream soda and Ben went for Byron's own pale ale. Both great accompaniments for what we ordered.

Now for the important bit, the burgers were hands down the most delicious burgers we've had. Cooked medium and beautifully pink the middle, served in a wonderfully soft and almost sweet bun, both had a pickle on the side and came topped with lettuce, red onion and tomato (the tomato was quickly fished out of both!) mine had American cheese added and Ben's had cheddar and dry cure bacon.

And the sides! We played it safe and just ordered two to share- mac and cheese and french fries- but the temptation to ask for one of everything was most definitely there! The fries were seasoned to perfection with a crisp outside and a wonderfully fluffy centre. Mac and cheese is a personal favourite of mine (carbs AND cheese? sign me right up!) so I was concerned they wouldn't get it right, but boy oh boy did they- crunchy on top and gooey in the middle, absolute heaven.

It didn't take us long to plough through all that food, but afterwards we were stuffed- we genuinely had no room for dessert, and we live for dessert!

All in all, it was the perfect place to have lunch. It's definitely family friendly without being tacky or over the top. The service was great, incredibly prompt despite how busy the place got. We arrived just after 1pm and didn't have to wait for a table but when we left just before 2 (see, told you the service was prompt!) there was a queue out the door. Most of the restaurants are located in London but you can see if there is one near you here. If you get the chance to go, definitely do- reasonably priced, great tasting food in a brilliant environment.

And my view across the table wasn't so bad ;)

What exciting things did you do with your weekend?
